4th - 5th Grade: VIDEO: LANDFORMS

GAME: what type of element is it? plant / animal / man-made


VOCABULARY:


  •   OCEAN: large area of salt water between the continents. There are 5 oceans. Together they cover 70% of the earth.
  •   CONTINENT: any of the large landmasses in the world. There are 7 continents. The Pacific Ocean is the largest and the deepest ocean.

  •   COAST: for example: beach, bay, lagoon, coral reef, estuary
  •   INLAND

  •   RIVERS have fresh water (not salty).
  •   LAKE: large body of water surrounded by land. Most lakes have fresh water, but some have salty water.
  •   POND: small body of water surrounded by land.
  •   MOUNTAINS: they have steep sides and a peak
  •   HILLS: they are smaller mountains
  •   VALLEYS: they are low areas between mountains
  •   VOLCANO: a mountain that throws lava to the surface of the earth

  •   ISLAND:  a piece of land that is surrounded by water
  •   ISTHMUS: a narrow strip of land with water on both sides connecting two larger pieces of land.
  •   PENINSULA: a piece of land that has water on 3 sides but is connected on the fourth side to the mainland.
  •    PLAIN: large areas of flat land with no mountains or hills in them.
  •   PLATEAUS: large areas of raised land that are flat on top.
